The Yunnan 220 kV Zhongzhai Substation project is located in Luoping County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province. Covering 66.97 mu (about 4.47 ha), it is invested and built by China Southern Power Grid’s Yunnan Power Grid Company with a total investment of approximately RMB 390 million. Once in service, the substation will become a key power hub for Shizong and Luoping areas in Qujing, further strengthening the local grid structure and supporting
high-quality economic and social development.
The station layout is arranged by voltage level into three rows of switchgear areas. From north to south, it comprises the 110 kV switchgear yard, the main transformer and 35 kV switchgear yard, and the 220 kV switchgear yard. Major on-site buildings include the main control and communications building, the 35 kV switchgear room, security and dispatch room, living and fire-fighting pump room, deluge valve chamber, and fire-fighting annex.
The project occupies 66.97 mu with an external spoil volume of roughly 127,000 m³. After stripping the surface humus, the entire foundation was found to be rock, requiring full blasting and excavation. Construction faced multiple challenges, including complex grid-frame work, difficult geological conditions, and variable weather. Because the project involves high-voltage systems, stringent technical requirements are in place to ensure reliability, stability, and safety. All equipment must meet national and local regulations, standards, and codes, comply with relevant safety and environmental requirements, and be certified by designated national and industry authorities.
Role of Industrial Switches in Smart Substations
In a smart substation, industrial Ethernet switches play a critical role in data communication and network management—for real-time data transmission, remote monitoring and control, LAN networking, network isolation and security, and optimized energy distribution.
With the advancement of smart-substation construction, new demands have emerged for standardized network switches to enhance operational safety, intelligence, maintenance convenience, and support for the dispatch master station. Standardization requires unified physical interfaces, information models, communication services, parameter settings, application functions, version management, and quality control—providing reliable technical assurance for secure and stable grid operation.
Yuantuo Optoelectronics refers to this category of standardized industrial switches as “Four-Unification” industrial switches, suitable for new construction, renovation, and expansion of smart substations within the China Southern Power Grid and State Grid Corporation of China systems.
Yuantuo Deployment at Zhongzhai
For the Yunnan 220 kV Zhongzhai Substation project, Yuantuo industrial switches handle the 220 kV/110 kV-B network communications. A total of 20 Yuantuo “Four-Unification” industrial switches were deployed on site, including:
16 × CM6020P2-N-F16G4 process-layer switches
4 × CM6016P3-N-G16 core switches
Configuration details:
Each of the 220 kV/110 kV-B1 and B2 networks uses 1 core switch plus 4 process-layer switches.
Process-layer switches cascade data up to the core switch.
Process-layer switches connect to intelligent terminals, line protection, main-transformer protection, measurement and control units, as well as intelligent fault recorders for both line and main transformer, before forwarding data to the core switch.
Proven Partnership and Future Vision
The Yunnan 220 kV Zhongzhai Substation is another successful collaboration between Yuantuo Optoelectronics and the Yunnan Power Grid Company of China Southern Power Grid.
The outstanding stability of Yuantuo “Four-Unification” industrial switches and the mature, safe, and efficient technical solution once again demonstrate the brand’s technological strength and have earned deep client recognition—laying a solid foundation for future cooperation.
Over the years, Yuantuo has maintained close partnerships with both State Grid Corporation of China and China Southern Power Grid, as well as leading domestic system integrators. Its flagship “Four-Unification” industrial switches have accumulated operating records in thousands of substations across the power industry, becoming a benchmark for high-end industrial switches.
Looking ahead, Yuantuo will continue to focus on product R&D and technical innovation, delivering more high-quality products and solutions for customers and the industry. The company remains committed to supporting the construction of a new-type power system and enabling the digital transformation of the energy and power sector, making lasting contributions to national development.
